If you are flying within the U.S.

You may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time you arrive, or the duration of your trip (whichever is shorter), if you’re traveling from certain areas within the U.S.

 

States have different requirements, and they’re updated often. We recommend checking with the airport in your destination city and state websites for the latest information.

 

TSA is now allowing passengers to bring liquid hand sanitizer up to 12oz. in carry-on bags until further notice. You should expect that containers larger than 3.4oz. will need to be screened separately, which will add some time to the checkpoint screening.


American Airlines


If you:

  • Bought your ticket before June 30, 2020, for travel between March 1 and September 30, 2020, you can rebook without change fees*.
  • Buy a new trip March 1 – May 31, 2020, for all future travel, you can also change it a later date without change fees.

Plus, if you have a ticket that is expiring between March 1 and September 30, 2020, the value of your unused ticket can be used for travel through December 31, 2021.

You may owe any difference in ticket price.

This includes purchase of Basic Economy tickets which normally don’t allow any changes.

*Travel must be completed on or before December 31, 2021.

 

Delta Airlines


Promoting safety and social distancing on board: To give you more space, middle seats are now blocked from seat selection and Complimentary Upgrades will be processed at the gate only -- still by priority order.  Also, Delta has modified its boarding process to now board by row, starting from the rear of the aircraft to the front.

 

If you:

  • have upcoming travel already booked for March through September 30, 2020 as of April 17, 2020 you can rebook without change fees, or
  • have existing eCredits or canceled travel from flights in March through September 30, 2020

you can change to a new flight through September 30, 2022.

 

If you buy a new trip from March 1 to September 30, 2020 for all future travel, you can change to a new date one year from the date you purchased the original ticket without a change fee

 

Frontier Airlines– as of April 16


If you:

  • have upcoming travel already booked prior to March 10 with original travel dates between March 10 and April 30, you will be permitted a one-time change to travel without a fee.  Travel must be completed by April 11, 2021. 
    • change to a new flight of equal or lesser value you will give up the difference
    • change to a new flight at a higher price you will pay the difference
    • cancel flight – retain value of ticket to be applied to purchase of new ticket to be booked within 90 days of cancellation of travel
  • purchased a ticket between March 10 and April 15 you will be permitted a one-time change to travel plans without a fee. Travel must be completed by April 11, 2021.
    • change to a new flight of equal or lesser value you will give up the difference
    • change to a new flight at a higher price you will pay the difference
    • cancel flight – retain value of ticket to be applied to purchase of new ticket to be booked within 90 days of cancellation of travel

 

Normal change/cancellation fees apply to tickets purchased after April 15.


JetBlue – as of 4/21/20

JetBlue uses a Travel Bank for all tickets.  The value of the cancelled ticket is deposited into a personal travel bank and can be used to buy for new tickets.

 

If you:

  • are traveling on or before June 30, 2020, you can rebook without change fees.  Travel must be booked by January 4, 2021.
  • bought a trip between February 27 and March 5 for travel through June 1 or bought a trip between March 6 and March 26 for travel through September 8, 2020 you can rebook without change fees.
  • buy a new trip from March 27 to April 30 for travel through January 4, 2021 you can rebook without change fees
  • have an existing Travel Credit from a previous flight that is expiring between February 27 and May 31, it will now expire December 31, 2020.

·        have a Travel Bank credit issued between February 27 and May 31 they will now have a 24-month expiration period instead of 12 months.

·        Cancel your flight, funds will be issued as a JetBlue Travel Bank Credit and will be valid for 24 months.

In all cases, funds will be deposited in a Travel Bank account and will be available for 24 months from date of purchase.

You may owe any difference in ticket price.

This includes purchase of Basic Blue tickets which normally don’t allow any changes.

 

 

Southwest --as of 4/28/20

 

Southwest uses a Travel Fund system to keep track of credits from cancelled flights.  Travel funds can be access at https://www.southwest.com/flight/travel-funds-search.html.  You will need to know your original confirmation number. Southwest never charges a fee to change or cancel a flight and funds are normally available for 1 year from date of purchase.  However, in recognition of the current travel environment, they are extending the expiration date of some travel funds:

  • Customers’ funds that have expired or will expire between March 1, 2020 and September 7, 2020, will now expire September 7, 2022.
  • Any travel funds created because you cancel a flight between March 1 – September 7, 2020, will expire September 7, 2022.

 

 

Additionally, If you:

  • Are scheduled to travel by April 30, you can change your travel to a date 60 days from the original date of travel without paying any difference in fare if you are traveling between the same origin and destination.

You may owe any difference in ticket price.

Spirit Airlines-- as of 4/28/20

 

Spirit provides a Reservation Credit when you cancel a flight.  You can access the itinerary by entering your last name and 6-digit confirmation code in My Trips at www.spirit.com.  Spirit is waiving cancellation fees for guests who travel plans are impacted by Covid-19.

 

*Restrictions for a Reservation Credit issued due to COVID-19: 

  • can be booked any time within 12 months of issue
  • can be used for multiple bookings until the full value is used
  • can be applied toward airfare, bags, seats, vacation packages, taxes, and fees
  • can be redeemed by any Guest linked to this reservation
  • can be redeemed via spirit.com or by calling Spirit reservations at 801-401-2222

 

Restrictions for a 60-day Reservation Credit: 

A Reservation Credit can be used for all new bookings and must be used for the guest to whom it was issued.Reservation credits are good for travel booked within 60 days of issuance for travel on any flight dates available in the system and shall not have any cash value. Reservation Credits can be applied towards airfare, vacation packages that include airfare, bags, and seats.  

 

 

United Airlines-- as of 5/4/20

 

You now have until May 31 to change or cancel any travel you booked through the end of the year without fees.  United is giving a choice between Travel Certificates and Future Flight Credits for cancelled or changed flights.  Travel certificates are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued. This includes all previously issued travel certificates. 


What is the difference between electronic travel certificates and a future flight credit?

Electronic travel certificates are more flexible – you can book any dates or cities, can be used for new travelers and do not need to comply with original booking class.

If you:

  • Bought your ticket before March 2, 2020, for travel between March 3 and May 31, 2020, you must change or cancel within 24 months from original ticket date and travel must commence within 24 months from original ticket issue date.
  • Buy a new trip March 1 – May 31, 2020, for all future travel, you can also change it for free over the next 12 months.

Plus, all electronic certificate tickets are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued.  This includes all currently valid electronic certificates and all new ones issued on or after April 1.
